The world’s best woodchopping and sawing athletes are coming to Austria as STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® prepares to host the 2022 World Trophy in the stunning surrounds of Vienna’s famed Rathausplatz on Saturday, 28th May 2022.

The 2022 World Trophy – formerly known as the Champions Trophy – will be held at one of Vienna’s most renowned tourist spots, the remarkable Rathausplatz, spectacularly located in front of the Town Hall and iconic Burgtheater.

The pinnacle event of the extremely challenging Trophy format is part of a three-day celebration of TIMBERSPORTS® in the Austrian capital across the weekend of 27th-29th May, with the Rookie World Championship and Austrian Championships bookending the main event. Entry on each day is free, with fans invited to thrill to three enthralling competitions over the three days.

The World Trophy will feature the 16 highest-ranking TIMBERSPORTS® athletes in this competition format from around the world, going head-to-head in a series of knockout match-ups. In each match-up, athletes will complete four disciplines back-to-back: Stock Saw, Underhand Chop, Single Buck and Standing Block Chop. The fastest athlete from each match-up will progress to the next round, culminating in a grand final between the last two remaining competitors, where the winner will be crowned the TIMBERSPORTS® World Trophy Champion.

World class line-up of logger sports athletes set to do battle in Vienna

In the early hours of Sunday 29th May, our Australian Trophy winner, Brad De Losa will be up against 15 of the elite logger sports athletes, including 10 of Europe’s best, competitors from New Zealand, Canada and the USA, and two wildcards still to be nominated.

Taking place the day before, the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Rookie World Championship will feature 12 of the best newcomers to the sport under the age of 25 in a three-round competition across five disciplines: the Underhand Chop, Stock Saw, the Standing Block Chop, Single Buck and Springboard. Each competitor will accumulate points in each round based on their placing in each discipline, with the lowest ranked athletes dropping out after each round. The athlete with the most points at the end of the third round will be crowned the 2022 STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Rookie World Champion.

Jack Argent, younger brother of Mitch Argent, will be representing Australia in the 2022 STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Rookie World Championship. Argent has been training and is primed for the upcoming competition against the World’s best Rookie athletes.

Rounding out the TIMBERSPORTS® weekend the day after the 2022 World Trophy, the Austrian Pro Championship sees the host country’s elite taking to the stage.

The World Trophy was set to be held in Vienna in 2020 but was cancelled due to the pandemic. With last season’s edition also not taking place, a European Trophy was held in its place. The 2019 edition saw USA’s Matt Cogar defeat the seemingly unstoppable Laurence O’Toole – at the time the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Individual World Champion – in a thrilling final watched live by thousands of fans in Gothenburg, Sweden, and millions of fans around the globe.
