Unfortunately due to the global pandemic situation, STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® today regrets to announce the difficult decision to cancel its 2020 Australian & International events, including the Australian Championship and the Individual and Team World Championship. The events were scheduled for 21-22 August in Glenelg, South Australia, and 7-8 November in the Partille arena in Gothenburg, Sweden, respectively. This decision has been made taking into consideration the health and safety of all athletes, spectators and employees.

TIMBERSPORTS® still aims to hold events with both venue partners in the future and is currently exploring the potential to host the Individual Men’s Australian Championship and World Championship without an audience towards the end of the year. The Women’s & Rookie Championships will be moved to early 2021 and take place at the same time as the 2021 Australian Trophy.

Given the fluidity of the current COVID-19 situation, TIMBERSPORTS® is unable to support the current format of public Australian & International events in 2020.

Alternative arrangements to resume season

TIMBERSPORTS® has drawn up an alternative plan to resume the season and hold at least two competitions in a secure and controlled environment, with no live audience, later in 2020. The current plan is to hold the Men’s Australian Championship in late September to allow the best Australian athlete to qualify for the proposed Individual World Championship. TIMBERSPORTS® is aiming to hold the Individual World Championship as the season’s marquee event on Sunday 29th November in the Bavaria Film Studios in Munich, Germany, allowing the world’s 12 best individual athletes to compete against each other and crown a TIMBERSPORTS® Individual World Champion. Unfortunately, a Team World Championship will not take place this year.

This alternative arrangement depends upon local security regulations, domestic and international travel policies and will be made in accordance with governmental guidance and restrictions.

TIMBERSPORTS® is working with its Medical Director on a viable hygiene system to protect all participants. Due to the ever-changing situation, TIMBERSPORTS® will be permanently assessing these circumstances and will provide an update on the process in due course.
