De Losa THE MAN TO BEAT

Three-time World Trophy winner & last year’s Australian Champion Brad De Losa from New South Wales will battle it out against 15 of Australia’s elite STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® athletes in the hopes to defend and win another title.

Brad will be competing against 15 of the country’s top athletes in the original extreme sport at Glenelg, with his biggest competition coming from the 2021 winner Mitch Argent, who had a year off to recover from an injury and is back hungry than ever for the win. Other top tier athletes that will be in the running to take home the win is Victorian Laurence O’Toole who will be looking to take back the crown after his win in 2019 and 2020 and the 2019 World Champion Brayden Meyer.

The Trophy format is the sport’s most physically demanding competition; athletes are required to chop & saw four logs in four different disciplines back-to-back in gruelling knockout matchups, the top athletes aiming to do so in under 60 seconds.

Action at the trophy 2022

The event will also host the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Australian Women’s Championship for the third time, after last year’s successful competition the top female athletes are back to showcase their strength and agility in this Original Extreme Sport.

Amanda Beams from Tasmania will be looking to defend her title of placing 1st in the 2022 Australian Women’s championship and in the first ever World Women’s Championship she placed 2nd in Vienna, Austria in May 2022 and was only seconds from the winner Martha King for the USA.

The Women’s Championship over the last 3 years has shown some epic battles and fierce competition, especially between the two Queenslanders Katrina head & Renee Retschlag who have made the podium multiple times and could take home the number one spot across the 3 round competitions consisting of Underhand Chop, STIHL Stocksaw, and the Single Buck Disciplines.

HOW THE TROPHY WORKS

The sport’s most physically enduring and extreme format sees athletes go head-to-head in a series of knockout matchups. In each match-up, athletes will complete four disciplines back-to-back: Stock Saw, Underhand Chop, Single Buck and Standing Block Chop. The fastest athlete from each match-up will progress to the next round, culminating in a grand final between the last two remaining competitors, where the winner will be crowned. Sixteen athletes are ranked for the competition, from whence the winner advances to the World Trophy. From there, they will compete against the qualifiers from Europe, USA, Canada, and New Zealand. The World Trophy is held in May each year, usually in Europe.
